Nancy O'Dell's debut work in the industry of broadcast was as a reporter/anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Later, she was a morning reporter and anchor for WCBD TV. Her articles from Charleston, about how the Charleston police handled DUI cases in a manner that was lenient, resulted in an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division. The investigation resulted a stricter directive for state authorities. Ms. O'Dell won the Best Report of the Media Award South Carolina by the Associated Press. Following her work in Charleston O'Dell worked as a co-anchor and investigative reporter for NBC's Miami station WTVJ-TV before joining Access Hollywood as a weekend anchor and a weekday reporter.
